ETREX (The E-Trade Exchange) is a well-known Global Market Consultancy based in Wembley, Middlesex, United Kingdom. Starting as a Business Management & IT Agency in 1996, the company now specializes in distributing cutting-edge products and services. We currently work with top notch names like Allegiance Telecom Inc. (USA), IDEAL (Germany), Owen-Holland (UK) and a host of others to supply a wide range of equipment and facilities to both private and public organizations around the world. Working with over 180 local associates (most of them independent companies) that have a wide range of skills, resources and experience, we are able to draw on a unique pool of talent that is, perhaps, unmatched anywhere else. No doubt this is why we were approached for help with SLIS. Way back in 1997 we conceived and created Greater London Virtual Civic Centre (GLVCC) - a very successful Web Portal for London. Looking back at what has been achieved to date I am truly proud that ETREX is associated with such a professional, valuable service. Although the original goal of a small team running the site from Freetown has not worked because of logistical problems on that side, the dedication of colleagues doing entirely voluntary work has seen SLIS go from strength to strength since it was launched. Giving individual credit is problematic: several people have been involved, with more than one using the handles "chief editor", "editor", "webmaster" etc. at various times depending on the prevailing circumstance. The Road Ahead We intend to continue developing and maintaining SLIS for as long as resources permit. The site has been renamed "Sierra Leone Internet Services" signifying our intention to extend facilities considerably. The menu on the home page maps out initial offerings. This of course will be kept under review and extended/amended as necessary. Finally, I would mention that the Internet is an interactive medium that thrives best with a high degree of audience participation. Your contributions, articles, suggestions and even criticisms are welcome at all times - all existing email contact addresses remain valid. Facilitating E-Commerce In particular, we wish to encourage Sierra Leonean businesses, agencies and organizations to enter their details in the free online business pages. Exchanging goods and services within a community is one of the best ways to generate, and retain, wealth and prosperity. Anyone running a credible business enterprise or other legal activity is also welcome to use our online Auto Pagebuilder to create and display an instant Web page. For our part, you can be assured of our continuing dedication to the provision of an excellent Web Portal for Sierra Leone.
